Rust Away
Grinding
and sand blasting are not necessarily the best approaches to removing
rust from metal. Those methods remove rust but also remove metal
which can only be replaced with plastic filler or new sheet metal.
The less filler used in a project, the less work is involved in
repairing a damaged area.
Rust Away
was designed to remove rust without etching the metal. There is
a clear advantage in neutralizing and dissolving only the rust,
leaving clean and restored metal without any loss.
Methods of Application:
Small
parts can be dipped, such as nuts, bolts, hinges, or nails. Pour
Rust Away into a plastic container and allow items to sit anywhere
from 20 minutes to 1 or 2 hours, dependant upon the amount of rust.
Once rust is dissolved, remove from the soak, wipe dry, and the metal
is clean and restored. There is no need to strain Rust Away.
It can be returned to the container for later use or another project.
Light
rust can be sprayed with Rust Away. Allow several applications
over 10 minute intervals. When metal starts to clear, scuff
surface with a nylon scuff pad. If all black marks are gone, the
metal is clean.
For heavy
rust areas, wet shop rags, chamois, or Turkish towels with Rust Away.
Place on rusted area and cover with plastic. Allow Rust Away to
set from 20 minutes to 1 to 2 hours. Use a nylon scuff pad to
buff and rewet if necessary to continue cleaning until all rust is
removed. When rust is dissolved, wipe dry with paper towels.
Rust Away works best when surface is kept wet until rust is completely
dissolved. Occasionally, rusty surfaces appear only to be
rusted, but actually have areas containing old paint beneath the rust.
If this becomes evident with your project, we suggest using Spra'
Strip to remove the paint when the surface is dry. After the
paint is removed, continue with rust removal. |

Rust Away
may be used to clean brass and copper. Keep the product
separate from other metal dips because brass or copper coloring will
likely carry onto your other metals. Apply Rust Away with a soft
cloth to avoid scratching. Buff the brass or copper when clean and
polish. We
recommend
200MPH,
a complete line of metal care products to
clean, restore, shine and protect many types of metal.

Rust Away
can be used for cleaning and removing rust from the inside of gas
tanks. Pour Rust Away into the tank and allow to soak for 20
minutes. Rotate gas tank until it has been cleaned. Pour out excess
Rust Away. When dry, it is suggested you apply a permanent sealer
paint, such as
Master Series Permanent Rust Sealer.
This will prevent rust from developing in the
future. |
Rust Away will neutralize with water. In case of a spill, use plenty
of water to thoroughly clean the area. To be safe, use caution not to
apply rust remover to anything other than metal.

Metal Prep & Conditioner
After
paint and rust have been removed, it is advisable to final clean the
metal. Metal Prep is a cleaner and conditioner for metal. This
product will remove light surface rust and properly etch the metal for
better paint adhesion. It leaves a light coat of zinc phosphate to
protect the metal from air and moisture. This barrier will ensure
that rust does not develop under a new paint job.
Once the
metal has been prepped, if necessary, the prepped metal may sit months
or even years, (covered with a cotton sheet or cloth car cover and
kept in a warm, dry environment) before priming and painting. Metal
Prep delivers years of extra wear to a paint job.
Metal
Prep is the extra step that truly makes the difference in a
restoration project.
Methods of Application:
Apply
Metal Prep to bare metal. Spray, brush or wipe Metal Prep onto metal
surface. Scuff with a nylon scrub pad making certain the surface is
smooth and clean. While wet with Metal Prep, wipe surface with a
clean cloth in a smooth, even direction. Do not rub in a circular
motion.
If there
are rusty spots, soak by using a cotton chamois or folded paper towel
and allow the area to sit from 20 minutes to 1 to 2 hours. Buff with
a Scotch-Brite pad and rewet. Buff over the area again when all the
rust is removed. Do not let it air dry, or it will turn black. Use a
paper towel to dry, wiping in a smooth, even direction. Do not rub in
a circular motion.
Allow 2 -
3 hours to cure if you plan to prime and paint immediately. Do not
prime until you are ready to paint.
Metal
Prep can be neutralized with water in case of an accident. Use plenty
of water to thoroughly clean the area. |

Wear gloves when using Metal Prep & Conditioner
and
protect eyes. |

Do not use Metal Prep as a soak and do not dilute this product. |
